Did you know that percolated tinctures are more potent?

It is said that percolation methods yield a formulation that is somewhere between 10% and 30% more potent than standard macerations. 

This is for those who have formulations already from Holly, it’s a faster way to get your custom blends out to you. Or maybe you are new to the dispensary and are curious to try a stand alone herb (a simple) that you don’t see in the apothecary. When we aren’t sure how we will react to a herb, using a simple can allow us to test the short term effects before ordering a larger (long term) formulation.

This doesn’t mean we don’t still use a standard maceration (herbs in menstrum for weeks) method, there are quite a few reasons to utilize both methods. The percolation method can only be done using dry herbs, this limits some of the herbs as there are a few we need to use fresh in order to utilize some of the important compounds. For fresh herbs I am a fan of the soxhlet extraction method.

This process requires 72 hours for simples (this is one herb) up to 2 weeks if multiple herbs have been requested. We need enough time for the “digestion” process to complete – this is how long the percolation itself requires – this is for each herb so the more you add to your blend the more time it will take. Orders received will be processed and ready to ship within 1 – 2 weeks, based on availability of herbs and formulation calculations. If the specific herbs requested are not in stock we will notify you that your order will be delayed.
